Finding a home at Bally's
Martini Mary, as her team and customers call her, isn't going anywhere as long as she can help it. She's seen first-hand how a job at Bally's can become so much more than just a 9 to 5. It can become somewhere you grow up and truly find what you love.
Mary has been part of the Bally's team since December 1979; day one of Bally's Atlantic City. She loves what she does and always tries to bring the energy to the rotating carousel bar for every customer she serves. It's these customers and her supportive team that have kept her at Bally's so long. And she couldn't see herself anywhere else.
Whether you're just starting out your career or are years in, Bally's is where everyone can find their place. Mary has worked with a lot of people who have been at Bally's a long time like her, so besides her own experience, she knows that it really is a job that people fall in love with.
"I just love bartending. I think that's my thing. I like being with people, talking to them, making them happy. It keeps me going and makes me feel good."
Values in action - you make the difference
As well as her connection with the customers, Mary can always rely on her team to bring the fun and constant support. She knows she can go from having a laugh with the other bartenders to being helped out in more challenging situations. She's got to know a lot of people across the different departments over the years and made some great friends because of it.
But not only that, Mary also knows that management will always have her back. "It's a really good company. They take care of you. If you need anything, like a day off, they'll try their best to take care of it. Bally's has always been good to me throughout the years."
Working through change whilst being happy right where she is
Bally's Atlantic City has been through a lot of change and improvements since Mary started almost 47 years ago. And while she's welcomed this with open arms, one thing she's never wanted to change is where she works.
Mary says being at Bally's is "like home" and explained how she will keep going until she knows she's ready to retire. Because why would she stop doing something she loves?
"The customers, the people, the company, they just keep me going. That's why I'm still here at nearly 70. I've got another year left in me, maybe longer. I'm judging it day by day but I still love it."
